Sheer Madness! (That we love!)

Taylor Swift and Blake Lively. Taylor Swifts fashion sense makes me swoon every time I see a new outfit. Blake Lively is a little more forward though... so a little more hit and miss. Both were on point at the 2012 Grammys and Gossips Girls 100th episode party!
HUGE right now are sheer dresses with strategically placed patchwork, usually in metallic colors.

Although Silk Threads has some of the best Indians designs around, we carry gowns too! Check out this gold and blue gown with a sheer top and metallic cut work overlay!

Digital Prints!

Every season, with every designer, you can usually find one thing that almost all the outfits have in common- and that one thing is the designer’s obsession that season. What’s the one thing peppered throughout our line right now? Digital Prints!

Digital Prints add a whole new intricate dimension that fabrics were unable to capture in the past. Now, we can literally take a photo of a mesmerizing sunset and have it printed on a scarf, sari, or whatever we want! This new trend allows prints to be crisper and more complex.

The stars have embraced this trend too. Carrie Underwood wore a digitally printed dress of pink poppies to the Golden Globes; Cat Deely, the host of So You Think You Can Dance wore a digitally printed dress that drew in the eye because of its bold pattern; and Keira Knightley was seen rocking a floor length digitally printed gown at the Olivier Awards.

If you were at our Masquerade Fashion Show in October, you saw the beginning of our obsession. We absolutely love this story of printed pants, tunics, and dresses!

Happy New Year!

We spend January 1 walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched.  Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives... not looking for flaws, but for potential.  ~Ellen Goodman

Every year people sit down and resolve to change their ways. Big changes, small changes, changes that are only made for a week. Although there are a lot of changes that can be made to each one of us here at Silk Threads and we each have our own resolutions, we are also going to try and follow the above quote by Ellen Goodman.

2011 was filled with the birth of new ideas and additions to our team. We started a gorgeous new Indian American fusion line called the SOCIAL list and welcomed Sirisha, Wendy, and Isabell to our team. 2012 will be filled with follow through. We will work hard to make sure that everyone is dressed fabulously and that our new additions feel like one of the family.

This year, why don't you try with us to not only change the negative in your life, but to enhance the positive? What changes do you want to make?

Velvet!

So many every day fashion staples have been influenced by the east that people don’t even realize. Velvet has always been associated with nobility, but that association began because Middle Eastern royals were the first to wear it.

These days you can find modern day royalty such as Kate Middleton, or America’s version of royalty, Angelina Jolie sporting this lush fabric in different ways. We are mad about this black velvet jacket Kate Middleton was seen wearing! We also love that as prim and proper Kate’s velvet jacket is, Angelina Jolie’s more masculine velvet trouser suit is just as elegant.

This versatile fabric looks amazing as a dress too. We here at silk threads adore rich colors, such as the royal purple of Emma Roberts Ferragamo mini dress and the royal blue of Vanessa Hudgens crushed velvet Catherine Malandrino. Plus, adding a blazer with closed toe shoes makes this look perfect for the office!
Of course, Silk Threads has been all over the velvet trend! Take a look at this stunning magenta lehnga. Our completely velvet skirt is embellished with eye catching stones that sparkle in any light. The blouse includes a corset style lace up back with fine, net, short sleeves. Below is a close up of the intricate stone work.

Getting Ready for the Holidays!

Kermit was wrong when he said its not easy being green, this new trend proves how easy & classy it can be! The red in last years popular red and green color combination is getting overpowered by a newfound love for green. Zoe Saldana rocked a sequin Kelly green crewneck last week at the Latin Grammy Awards; Andrea Riseborough chose an emerald design for the Toronto Film Festival; and Gwyneth Paltrow went for a fem green gown with a plunging neckline for the Bambi Awards. This trend isn’t just for the west though! Bollywood stars like Bipasha Basu have embraced it too. Bipasha wore an emerald green cowl neck dress at Lakme Fashion Week in India.

Silk Threads makes it easy to sport this fabulous color with one of our most popular lehngas! Pictured below is our gold lehnga with a green net overlay. It has fully hand embroidered gold sequins in the skirt body paired with a spiral of Swarovski crystals.  It is paired with a fully cutwork blouse of Swarovski crystal swirl design and a neckline of cut out lace flowers. Another popular trend is found in the emerald green, velvet, block border. Come in today to have one custom made for yourself!
